Curriculum Model
The Caterpillar’s Cove offers a comprehensive approach
to teaching and learning. It provides a complete curriculum
model which incorporates guidelines on what students should
learn, as well as guidelines on teaching methodologies
and assessment strategies.
At the heart of The Cove’s curriculum is a commitment
to both structured inquiry and emergent curriculum as
the leading vehicle for learning.
The curriculum is characterized by
- a set of habits of mind and a set of domain learning
outcomes appropriate and sequential within each age
group and across all ages from 18 months to 6 years.
- a variety of indoor and outdoor activities
- both structured and emergent curriculum
- learning through play, mediation from adults and
collaboration with peers
- preparation of children for school readiness: activities
are designed to encourage the children’s exploration
in language, math concepts, creative expression, social
and physical learning.
The Toddler Curriculum Framework
The Toddler curriculum philosophy is
as follows:
We believe in a responsive approach that fosters respectful,
responsive and reciprocal dispositions for the 18 months
to 3 year-olds.
Active Learning is at core of the curriculum; key experiences
centre around care-giving routines and play activities
that are both teacher-directed and child initiated.
Using the responsive approach to learning, a set of
developmental learning outcomes comprises both developmental
domain and habits of mind outcomes are derived. From
the learning outcomes, the play curriculum and the caregiving
curriculum forms the basis of all the programmes in the
centre. |
